Located at the southeast corner of Interstate 294 and 159th Street (IL Route 6) was approximately 125 acres of prime real estate for logistical repurposing. Spaceco was asked to undertake this massive project from start to finish under the Scannell development team. The plan included a five-story, 3.5 million sf E-Commerce fulfillment center, with a building footprint of 825,000 square feet. The facility was also designed and permitted with 1,800 car parking stalls, 420 truck stalls, and 65 dock positions.
Our Contributions
This project required multi-discipline coordination and adherence to codes and specifications from multiple permitting agencies both federal and local. The site design considerations included site planning and stormwater management systems as well as the relocation of over four thousand feet of eighteen-inch Metropolitan Water Reclamation District force main. Our team of professionals was able to create solutions for difficult site constraints including federally regulated floodplain and floodway, Illinois Department of Transportation accesses including roadway widening and signalized intersections, transit needs of PACE bus routes, and adjacent tollway access.
