In February 2015, President Barack Obama designated 250 acres of South Side Chicago’s former Pullman Palace Car Company Factory Town as a national monument. The site is notable for its role in American labor history, including the 1894 Pullman Strike.
A visitor center built in the former Administration Clock Tower Building is at the heart of Pullman’s factory complex.
The people of Chicago celebrated the park’s grand opening on Labor Day weekend in 2021. The massive visitor center offers audio exhibits and visual displays exploring the history of Pullman’s planned industrial town. What was once the home of 8,000 workers is now a space for the men, women, and children of Chicago to learn more about their city’s history.
